Devlog-1 "Cat rancher"


Hello Sloth here,

Recently I was playing Stardew valley and had a thought, What if there was a farming game based on cats? This idea came from me having two cats; Patches and Torbie, and I decided to pick Patches to be the playable character and put Torbie on the shelf for later used. My core game idea  was that the player would be on a island and would farm different crops, while guests(Other cats) would show up periodically  to ask for certain crops, and after giving them their crop, they would give currency, then the player would use the currency to buy new seed packets(They are infinitely usable) and make more money. As for the game engine I decided to use, I chose Godot because of its limited size and its open sourced.

Then I got to work making sprites, here are some early ones:

These early versions served as a basis for the games art style. The art style is mostly made from softer colors clashing with a darkened color outline.

In this version you can walk around and pick up the seed packet with your mouse, there is also a day-night cycle with the clock being an indicator. The tile map was also built to give the player walkable space. 

In my future plans for now, I want to add:

-a money system called meows

-an inventory system

-at least 15  different crops with varying rarity

- a fishing system with 15+ fish

-a shop system

-at least 60 different guests with individual personalities 

-a house the player stays in

-a fermenting system(Kind of like Stardew's system)

-artisan machines that make goods like cheese, mayo, chocolate, etc

-seasons
